Auto Super Shoppe Matamata is proudly owned and operated by long-time resident Dave Harris.

Dave was honoured to be recognised by Auto Super Shoppes when he was chosen to represent their brand in the Matamata region.

The original business in Broadway was built as a service station by Ken Gouk in 1939. Those with a keen eye will still see the late “art deco” style preserved in the original service station building.

Soon after opening, the business was closed for a period during the war years when Ken was called up for military service. It opened again in 1944 and operated as a service station through until Ken retired.

The building was then leased to Slade Anderson who operated it through until Rod and Pam Gouk bought the business in 1973.

Rod, Pam and family grew and diversified the business and workshop for the next 27 years until it was sold to Dave Harris in 2000.

Under Rod Gouk’s ownership, the buildings were extended to include a large showroom selling a full range of convenience items such as drinks, confectionary and groceries.

This provided an opportunity to introduce a range of automotive parts and accessories, and to extend and grow the workshop area. Over this period the business held franchises for Fiat, Skoda, Subaru, Volkswagon and Honda.

In the early 1990s Rod introduced the new AA-franchised servicing model. Dave Harris continued the evolution of the workshop operations, taking the AA franchise through several changes, including developing an AA after hours’ breakdown service and introducing the latest technology for diagnostics  on modern computer-controlled vehicles.

In 2019 the business changed to the Auto Super Shoppe brand, with a VTNZ (Vehicle Testing New Zealand) certified repairer brought on board to ensure independent Warrant of Fitness compliance checks.
